Whew!
All the new classes are off my desk and onto Christine’s. So, as soon as she gets a chance to process the information they will be up on the site. We will then send out a notice that they are available for your viewing pleasure (hopefully!) along with the date of registration. And while we are on the topic of registration, here are a few common questions and concerns:
“How can I get into a class?”
Your best shot is to send me an email on the button at 9 am the day of registration. Occasionally a class is popular and it sells out right away. I take names in the order they come in from my server at Road Runner. I really don’t have any control over how they line them up when there are multiple emails at the same time. I don’t know if my system is the best or most fair and believe me, I have thought of alternatives. Whenever I mention “lottery” people recoil so I have never done this. For classes that sell out I try to schedule another one so as many people as possible get what they want. Another alternative is to get on the waiting list – I often have a cancellation or two, so this is a viable option.
“I live in another state and would like to take a class – any information would be appreciated.”
Well, right off the bat I am going to take care of one of your concerns. Most of the tools you will need for the class are provided and only a few supplies are generally required. You can ship a package to me prior to class if you rather not take a chance of TSA handling the goods. Accommodation wise, I think the easiest thing to do is to stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Old Town. Most people tell me they are happy with it. The hotel will pick you up at the airport and I transport students to and from class from this hotel only. There are lots of restaurants in Old Town that I think you would enjoy.
“I am not sure if my skills are good enough for a class. What should I do?”
Just pop me an email off prior to registration so we can talk about it. Chances are you will be fine, but occasionally I recommend first taking a fabrication or soldering class.
“I am concerned about learning how to solder without having access to a torch at home. What should I do?”
I suggest you use the butane torch we have available in class. I am happy to show you how it works. This will allow you to solder a lot of projects. Projects involving large pieces of sheet metal (large cuffs and large bangles) will not work with the butane torch.
Well, these are a few of the questions I hear pretty often. If you have one, please email me at cfox@san.rr.com.
Happy Holidays and I am looking forward to a new round of classes!
